Perissa Beach - Santorini Beaches
Santorini Greece possesses some very interesting beaches that are unlike any others, due to their color. Several of the most impressive Santorini beaches are the black beaches in Perissa, Kamari, Perivolos and Monolithos, the Red Beach and White Beach in Akrotiri, Vlychada, Vourvourou, Ammoudi, and Armeni. From Santorini, visitors can travel to the volcanic isles of Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni and Thirassia that are located opposite the western side of the island.
Santorini Sightseeing
Santorini Greece has been inhabited since ancient times and therefore has some exquisite archaeological sites, the most impressive being the ancient ruins of the City of Thira near Perissa and the Prehistoric Settlement in Akrotiri, both of which are considered among the priceless jewels of Ancient Greece. On your map of Santorini, you can find the main sightseeing in Fira, which includes the Archaeological and Folklore Museums, and the Museum of Ancient Thira, the cathedrals, and the Gizi Manor. It is also worth visiting the Maritime Museum in Oia, and the wineries in the inland villages.
Local Cuisine and Festivities of Perissa, Santorini
During the summer months, Perissa hosts several festivals such as those of Agios Ioannis on August 29, of Panagias Katefianis on September 8 and of Timios Stavros on September 14. We suggest attending these festivals to experience a bit of everyday Santorini life and to taste the local delicacies such as Santorini wine, fava (lentil dip) and olives.
The Santorini Hotel Veggera is situated in Perissa, overlooking the stunning black beach and the surrounding landscape. Perissa is one of the most popular resorts on Santorini Island and is famous for its black sandy beach with deck chairs, umbrellas and beach bars.
